Facial Hair Removal

Putting it out there — some of us have it, some of us don’t.

It’s not a taboo subject, or at least it shouldn’t be. There also seems to be a lot of misinformation out there, and that makes researching this topic confusing and frustrating. Will it grow back darker? Thicker? I found the information to be so contradictory that I ended up paralyzed with fear. I am someone who has a lot of blonde peach fuzz on my face. As I entered into my mid-twenties, I also started to see not so blonde hair arise as well along my chin and upper lip (alarming to say the least!). I wasn’t even sure where to start. Still battling breakouts at this point, the last thing I wanted was for my hair removal technique to cause more breakouts. No thank you.

Identifying the Best Facial Hair Removal Method

Waxing

If you are using chemical exfoliants (BHA & AHA) OR any product with retinol, you need to be very careful about your hair removal method i.e. waxing is a big no no and can permanently damage the skin. Which I most definitely hope you are using at least one of those. So needless to say, I am not a fan of waxing for any spot on the face (including eyebrows for the same reason above).

Hair Removal Cream

Now, if breakouts are one of your concerns, this method is definitely not for you. Despite what the clever marketing jargon says, these types of products are not “non-comedogenic” or “non-acnegenic”. If you rarely breakout, this could be a great method, I have not personally tried since I am breakout prone.

Shaving

There are certainly believers out there that the hair will grow back thicker. I think this would definitely happen if you are shaving your face. Again, haven’t tried this one because I don’t want it to grow back spiky in any way shape or form.

Laser Hair Removal

Unfortunately, this does not work on blonde hairs, or even very well on thin but darker hairs. If you have some thickness to yours, this might be a permanent option. I’ll be patiently waiting for the technology to advance on this one.

Epilating

This method removes hair from the root and the small handheld device can “tweeze” can cover larger areas at a time. I have heard this process is painful, but pulling from the root will always last longer. I haven’t tried this one out either. Pulling from the root does not seem to cause the hair to grow back thicker (I can attest to this from using tweezers for individual hairs).

Trimming

Enter my main obsession: The Finishing Touch Flawless Women’s Hair Remover. You guys. This is itttt. This small handheld device eliminates all facial hair from blonde and fuzzy, to course and thick hair. Results vary per person, I can get away with doing this once a week (Sunday Spa Day). However, the best part is, it causes virtually zero irritation and takes a mere 60 seconds or less—so in theory, you could use this as often as you need. It hasn’t caused the hair to grow back thicker at all, and doesn’t clog pores.

Order one here, it’s a no brainer.

FACIAL HAIR REMOVAL MYTHS

  • It will grow back darker/thicker

  • Any method works (see above breakdowns)

  • It will cause you to break out

  • It’s “abnormal” to have facial hair—this is false, however, it can be a symptom of PCOS so bring it up to your OBGYN or regular practitioner.
